W CLEMENTS STONE QUOTES
Famous W Clement Stone quotes
“All I want to do is change the world.” W. Clement Stone quotes this most often throughout his life. It tells us a lot about this inspiring man who died in September 2002 aged 100 years old.
Born in Chicago in May 1902, William Clement Stone married his high school sweetheart Jessie at age 21. Stone’s father died when he was a young boy (aged 3) and he began his business career by selling newspapers at age 6 to help his mother with expenses. At age 16 he joined his mother working in her insurance company and was soon earning $100 per week selling insurance, a huge income in 1918. Ultimately he built up his own insurance company the Combined Insurance Company of America and soon had over 1000 agents working for him.
Stone was noted for his pencil-thin black mustache, his vibrant suspenders, polka-dot bow ties and smart spats. He became a great philanthropist providing huge sums to Richard Nixon’s campaigns, civic and community groups as well as many humanitarian causes. He celebrated his 100th Birthday by giving $100,000 to the University of Chicago.
Stone grew to be an exceptional speaker and self-help author emphasising a "positive mental attitude". In 1960, together with Napoleon Hill he wrote “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude.” He believed in the power of optimism and that even in adversity lay the seeds of success. Stone later wrote “The Success System That Never Fails” and collaborated with Norma Lee Brown in writing “The Other Side of the Mind.”
The W. Clement and Jessie V Stone Foundation now focuses on making grants to promote early childhood development, youth development and education (focusing on teacher quality and principal leadership).
Clement and Jessie had three children.
This is a favourite W. Clement Stone famous quote:
“Your most precious, valued possessions and your greatest powers
are invisible and intangible. No one can take them. You, and you
alone, can give them. You will receive abundance for your
giving. The more you give—the more you will have!”
