EARL NIGHTINGALE QUOTES
Earl Nightingale quotes from the Strangest Secret and other sources
“You become what you think about.” As the most famous of Earl Nightingale quotes from the ‘Strangest Secret’, this is repeated often in articles on the Law of Attraction and self help courses.
Earl Nightingale was a poor child during the Depression and his father left when he was 12. Earl had a great curiosity and thirst for knowledge and desire to better himself. This aspiration eventually led him to become one of the world's foremost experts on success and what makes people successful.
As a Marine in 1941 Earl was one of the few survivors aboard the battleship Arizona when it was attacked in Pearl Harbour. He started his career in radio with the Marines as a volunteer announcer at a local radio station.
After the War, Earl hosted his own daily commentary program on WGN, where he was paid commission on his own advertising sales. By 1957 at the age of 35, he was so successful that he decided to retire. He had also bought his own insurance company and worked tirelessly motivating his sales force to greater accomplishments. At one point Earl was about to go away on a long holiday and his sales manager begged him to record some inspirational words for his staff. And so the recording “The Strangest Secret” was created - this later became the first spoken-word record to sell over a million copies and thus win a ‘Gold Record’.
In 1960 Earl paired up with businessman Lloyd Conant and together they formed Nightingale-Conant Corporation, which became a multi-million dollar giant in the self-improvement field.
When Earl Nightingale died on March 28, 1989, Paul Harvey broke the news to
the country on his radio program with the words, "The sonorous voice of the nightingale was stilled." In the words of his good friend and commercial announcer, Steve King, "Earl Nightingale never let a day go by that he didn't learn something new and, in turn, pass it on to others. It was his consuming passion."
A special Earl Nightingale Quote:
"We can let circumstances rule us,
or we can take charge and rule our
lives from within."
