Dr Seuss Quotes, Rhythmic and Repeatable
Dr Seuss quotes come from the creator of the characters that we all know and love - or fear.
Whether you find yourself picking sides between the Yooks and Zooks, those butter bearing battlers of birthrights; or trying to ignore the Cat in the Hat, that fiery furry foul-mouthed feline; or trying to love the Grinch, that grouchy greenish geyser of garishness; quotes from Dr Seuss will cling to your brain like butter on balmy bread.
Trust him, He's a Doctor
Under all of his pen names [including Theo LeSeig (Geisel backwards) and Rosetta Stone], Theodor Geisel authored over 60 books. Numerous adaptations, on television, film, and Broadway, followed.
Ted established his pen name, Dr Seuss, after being banned from all extracurricular activities in college (he was caught drinking gin during the Prohibition). He adopted the "Seuss" after his mother's maiden name, and the "Dr" after his father's wish for him to earn his doctorate and become a professor.
Dr Seuss left Oxford before earning that PhD in order to marry his first wife. He would go on to support the two of them during the Great Depression with his humorously political illustrations.
Dr Seuss was a man who never fathered any children, developed his talent for rhythm by listening to his mother's chants about pies in their bakery, and holed up in an observation tower and wore a thinking cap to write.
How the Cat in the Hat Bumped Off Spot, Dick and Jane (and other whimsical tales)
It was 1954. Children's literature was deemed boring, and literacy rates were falling. Dr Seuss was challenged to use 250 of 348 common vocabulary words in a book for children. He managed to incorporate 236 of them, in The Cat in the Hat. Children everywhere woke up and smelled the litter box.
Dr Seuss' first book, titled And to Think that I Saw it on Mulberry Street, was almost burned by Theodor himself. Why? 28 publishers had rejected it before Random House picked it up.
Green Eggs and Ham was written in answer to a bet that Seuss couldn't craft a book
using only 50 words. He did it...the
low carb way.
The Butter Battle Book was Seuss' most controversial book, addressing the U.S.'s arms race with the Soviet Union.
Dr Seuss also holds unofficial nerd rights
(to the word, that is). This
derogatory term made its debut in the 1950 book, If I Ran the Zoo, where an imported creature bore the name.
A Dr Seuss Famous Quote for Breakfast
Okay, so you're not into green eggs and ham? Then, may I suggest a Dr Seuss quotation?
This illustrator of fantasy machines, squiggly architecture, and eccentric characters was also a writer of unparalleled meter and rhyme. But more importantly, he has twisted the learning curve for children and adults, worldwide.
