Abraham Lincoln Quotes, with Fortitude
Abraham Lincoln quotes come from the 16th President of the United States, but more importantly, quotes from Abraham Lincoln come from a man who was the 1st Republican President, the 1st assassinated President, and the only President to preserve the Union and lead the abolition of slavery.
A quote from Abraham Lincoln may have come from a speech (all speeches were written by his own hand) in which he spearheaded the 13th amendment, from his Emancipation Proclamation, or from a conversation with a reporter or adversary, in which his sense of humor prevailed.
The 16th President of the U.S. may have no living heirs, but his legacy lives on.
Was he Invincible until 1865?
Before Abraham Lincoln's dreadful end, he endured many brushes with tragedy.
He nearly drowned; lost a piece of his jawbone to a dentist; was kicked in the head by a horse and clubbed in the head by a robber; almost amputated his own finger with an ax; survived the Black Hawk War; overcame frostbitten feet; got through many bouts with depression; had syphilis, scarlet fever, smallpox, and malaria (twice); escaped from a natural gas leak, and endured numerous whacks from his wife, Mary Todd. Plus, medical historians suggest he may have had cancer near the end of his life.
Lincoln foretold his own death with premonitions and dreams. He didn't expect to be able to complete his second term.
After surviving all of the aforementioned without a qualm, I would venture to say that he may have been on to something.
